It is that time of year again. Every June, electronic music lovers from all over the planet converge on the mecca of excess, Las Vegas, for a 3-day, 8-stage event that qualifies as the largest electronic music festival in the United States. EDC takes place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, approximately 30 minutes outside of the strip, although with traffic this drive can easily take 3 hours.
There are many reasons why hundreds of thousands flock every year to EDC Las Vegas, and while it may not be the festival of choice for most of us here at Booty Shakers, there are still many acts playing that are undoubtedly worth seeing. The massive lineup is filled with every genre of electronic music, with full stages dedicated to more obscures genres, such as hardstyle and trance, and other stages boasting an impressive collection of genre-bending acts. And, yes, some stages are filled with “DJs” playing the Beatport Top 100 electro-house tracks, but my recommendation would just be to skip those. Unless that’s your type of thing, in which case, enjoy. Not to be forgotten is the Neon Garden stage, home to the likes of some of the biggest names in the world of techno, tech-house, and deep house. So, with all of that in mind, we felt it prudent to share a list of the top 10 must-see artists at this years Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas.
Loco Dice- Neon Garden- 12:15-2:00am
What can be said about Loco Dice. Every so often a DJ or producer comes along who inspires the collective imagination. If you’ve seen Loco Dice perform at his ten-year-long Tribehouse residency in his hometown Düsseldorf, or at DC-10 in Ibiza (from ’02-’06), you will have understood this.
Loco Dice is someone who can puzzle together intangible moods with a direct approach. Via his DJ sets or his productions on labels like M_nus, Cadenza, Ovum, Four Twenty and Cocoon, he merges perspectives in his delicate sense for sounds and reflective atmospheres, underpinned with solid, physical grooves inspired by the hip hop that was his early sonic stomping ground in the mid- to late ‘90s.
Loco Dice b2b Carl Cox- Neon Garden- 2:00-3:45am
As the solo portion of Loco Dice’s set comes to a close, he will be joined by the legend himself, Carl Cox. The two will perform a special back to back (b2b) set for almost 2 hours. Both are absolute masters of their craft, and a chance to see them b2b is truly special. Of all acts Friday, this is the one to not be missed.
Carl Cox- Neon Garden- 3:45-5:30am
One of the most charming DJs in the business. A musical ambassador and a veteran of acid house, a champion of techno, a dance music pioneer, label owner, King of Ibiza – you name it, Carl’s been there and done it, never losing sight of his passions – playing music, breaking tunes and celebrating life. His love of dance music is infectious, and his skill and expertise behind the decks is second to none. Catch him closing down his own Neon Garden stage with a premier set full of house and techno goodness.
